Chapter 2: Start with Celebration

What did I take from this chapter?

I want to make sure the students are writing about things that are meaningful. I do not want to focus on "correct" writing as much as I have been. Of course I will address mechanics, but I want the students to put their heart into their writing. Students need to have real audience. I will continue to look for authentic writing opportunities.

Again I agree with what you have blogged and hope that I can do the same with my students.

I think it is hard not to look at mechanics as teachers. When you hear people who are out in the business world all I have ever heard is how horrible people's skills have become.

I agree that you don't want to bog your students down with mechanics in their Rough Drafts, but from there I feel mechanics are important for real world writing. We should share authentic writing topics with each other.
